Janyce Hursey- President
For Janyce Hursey, serving as Board President of an organization supporting Summerville’s local nonprofits is a natural extension of her 15 years of community involvement and deep love for the area. She leads an organization committed to strategically raising funds for local nonprofits, empowering them to create lasting positive change in the community she cherishes.

Robin Price- Vice President
Robin Price is a Jersey Girl who relocated to the Low Country 2 years ago and hit the ground running. She brings decades of experience in Retail/Wholesale and Store Design to the shop and has been a positive influence to the organization. She currently serves as Vice-President and hopes to be able to continue to volunteer with this dynamic Board for many years to come.

Cathy Elkins- Treasurer
Cathy Elkins, originally from Atlanta, moved to South Carolina in 2021 after spending 30 years in Dallas, Texas. She began volunteering at Second Chance after meeting Board President Jan Hursey on a cruise. With a corporate background in Accounting and Financial Management, she currently serves as the Board Treasurer and loves volunteering at the Front Desk every Friday morning.

Sue LaDow – Secretary
Sue LaDow joined Second Chance Thrift Shop in May 2024 and has since become the Secretary of the Board of Directors and works weekly in the store. Sue joined Second Chance after retirement from Advance Auto Parts and has more than 35 years of experience in communications, marketing and project management having been employed by several Fortune 500 companies. She currently resides in Del Webb Nexton, where she actively participates in various community activities and enjoys gardening.

Sharon Petersen – Member-at- Large
Sharon Petersen brings a powerhouse blend of business smarts and community heart to our Board of Directors. With 25+ years in global supply chain management, she is an expert at problem-solving and getting things done. Sharon has called Summerville home for 21 years and has been our dedicated Friday Day Manager since 2021. Having volunteered for numerous local causes, she is excited to step into this leadership role and help Second Chance keep turning thrift store treasures into vital community funding.

Tammi Williams – Member-at-Large
After moving from Missouri to Minnesota and finally settling in South Carolina in 2020, this dedicated volunteer found the perfect way to connect with her new community at Second Chance. Since getting hooked at a Third Thursday event in July 2025, she’s been a weekly staple in our shop and donation center. Whether she is sorting treasures or assisting shoppers, she loves playing a hands-on role in helping us fund local nonprofits and can’t wait to continue supporting our success!

Gina O’Connell – Member-at- Large
Gina O’Connell is a seasoned business pro, community advocate, and creative leader who loves helping nonprofits thrive. With a background in sales, marketing, and strategic growth, Gina specializes in building strong partnerships that matter. She has spent years volunteering and leading community initiatives, and she is thrilled to bring her signature energy, positivity, and collaborative spirit to the Second Chance Board. Gina can’t wait to help connect more people to our mission and expand our impact across Summerville!

Jamie Pavlunenko – Member-at-Large
Jamie Pavlunenko is a Summerville resident and founder of J. Pavlunenko Consulting, a boutique firm specializing in career coaching and HR consulting for small businesses and nonprofits. A Kentucky native who found her home in the Lowcountry, Jamie has spent years investing in the local community through the Rotary Club, the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, and hands-on volunteer work with a variety of organizations. She brings an organizational and people-first perspective to the Board and looks forward to helping Second Chance continue its impact for years to come.

Jessica Toolin – Member-at- Large
Jessica Toolin is a lifelong Summerville resident with a passion for serving both her family and her community. She brings years of experience supporting nonprofit organizations and helping businesses grow through strategic marketing and communications. As an avid thrifter and strong advocate for local causes, Jessica values sustainability, community connection, and giving back. Her deep roots in Summerville and commitment to helping others make her excited to support the mission of Second Chance Thrift Shop as a member of its board.
