​Background Information:

Supporting the Summerville community since 1988, Second Chance Thrift Shop is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that receives donations of clothing, accessories, and household goods from the public.  It's a way to give a second chance to previously treasured belongings.  Our volunteers sort, test, iron, make the items sales-worthy, sell the items, keep the shop well stocked, and maintain an attractive sales floor.  Shoppers can purchase quality housewares, home décor, and clothing for the entire family. With over 90 dedicated volunteers, Second Chance is a welcoming and friendly place to donate, shop, and volunteer. Proceeds from the items sold in our shop are donated to local nonprofit organizations through our Community Support Awards program.  In 2023, we awarded $200,000 to other nonprofit organizations that serve those most in need in our community.

▪ Board members are essential for the success of the organization.  Board members are responsible for the vision and planning of the organization, the financial health of the organization, the organization's fiscal health, and the planning and operation of Second Chance Thrift Shop.

▪ Board members may work in a management capacity and be familiar with all store operations.

 

▪ Board members may be available to sub in the shop or workroom as Day Manager or volunteer position in their specific area. 

 

▪ Board members shall be responsible for an additional shop function/area (i.e., jewelry, vintage research, supplies purchasing, maintaining financial records, merchandising, social media, volunteer recruitment, scheduling, or training).

 

▪ Board members shall serve on at least one committee (volunteer appreciation, volunteer recruitment, community liaison, awards, finance, or procurement).

 

▪ Board members shall attend a minimum of ten board meetings each year.

▪ Board members shall attend all volunteer appreciation and community awards functions.

​

▪ Board members shall make themselves available to promote goodwill and our mission to volunteers, customers, and our community.

​

▪ Board terms are three years.
